The creation of Toronto Stamp Inc.'s magnetic name badges requires magnets to be glued to the backs of the badges. Separating a strong magnet from its stack is not an easy task, therefore a solution is needed to improve productivity.
This was a simple problem that required a simple solution. The company's in-house 3D printer would be used to create this device. The inspiration for the design came from candy dispensors. A stack of magnets would be loaded from the back, and a separator pushes one magnet off the stack at a time. The design was built for FDM 3D printing with dissolvable support material. A print-in-place design is utilized for further simplification. A few design iterations were needed to arrive at a product that operated reliably.
The adoption of this dispensor significantly increased productivity and prevented potential strains and injuries.
